Camp Information
Summer Camp (Ages 6-11)
The Civic Center Summer Camp is for ages 6 – 11 years old. All camp activities take place at the Civic Center, 1403 Oak Ridge Turnpike, and in Bissell Park except for the field trips and visits to the outdoor swimming pool. Camp activities include a variety of games such as capture the flag, kickball, basketball, and many more. A craft option is offered on most days through out the week. In the afternoons children will choose between swimming at the outdoor pool or playing games at the Civic Center. Movies are sometimes shown on rainy days. Field trips such as Knoxville Zoo, bowling, roller skating, Main Events, etc. are planned throughout the summer. Special events such as the Water Carnival, Camp Olympics, Hero Day, and other activities are also planned weekly. Lunches will not be provided this summer (except for two Pizza Days and a Cookout Day) so that parents may pack a lunch that meets the dietary needs of their child. FAQs for Summer Camp
Counselors in Training Program
Counselors in Training (CITs) are teens from the age of 15-17 who apply to volunteer their time in the summer at Oak Ridge Summer Camp. They attend a mandatory training day before camp begins, and they are briefed on Summer Camp rules, daily schedule and CIT duties. They are required to volunteer 4 weeks of the 8 week camp schedule. There will be no charge for their attendance.
Applicants must submit an application and required letters of recommendation to be considered for the program. Qualified candidates will be invited to participate in a personal interview. Selections will be made based upon the application, interview, reference letters, records checks and history as a former camper. This is a competitive program and not all applicants will be accepted.
CIT packets can be obtained at the Civic Center front desk at 1403 Oak Ridge Turnpike or from the links below and must be returned by May 1st each year. For more information contact Jennifer Bohanan at 865-425-3450.
